Discover Tapajós
Tapajós National Forest is located in the heart of the Pará Amazon, east of Tapajós River. Its flourishing forest, mainly untouched, gives rise to the exuberance of the Amazon jungle. Tapajós National Forest has more than 40 different species of trees per hectare and an amazing wildlife. Crab-eating Foxes, Giant Otters, and tamanduas (anteater flag) inhabit this forest. This jungle is also home for many different birds and for 24 communities on the banks of Tapajos River that live of on subsistence agriculture and extractive plants. Tapajós River has the greatest scenic beauty with its rapids, waterfalls, and underwater life. Huge fish, such as the pirarucu, which is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world can spawn freely in this protected and sustainable area. | see more.
